Reflecting with the Students

As ever the students have been inspiring us with their creative reflections from their clinical encounters.   From the First Clinical Attachment (FCA) Manu Sidhu and Gabrielle Mathews illustrated their patient’s journey as she navigated the NHS and her own identity with a rare diagnosis in this animation called ‘Princess Fiona’   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBhiObmSVqU Following her year 5 Integrated Clinical Attachment, Bella Leal reflected that a patient has many layers to their personal health story and created a painting of a person composed of multiple bits of medical packaging and equipment. At the end of their year 6 Health Inequalities module students produce a reflective creative piece which are collated by Giskin Day at this blog address.   https://temoignagesite.wordpress.com/  https://temoignagesite.wordpress.com/

Presidents Award for Excellence

The President’s Awards for Excellence are annual awards to recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions in Education, Research or Societal Engagement .   This year we celebrated with two members of the department who received the award for their education work.   The following words were said as they received their awards. 'Dr Shivani Tanna is the year 3 MICA GP course lead.   She has shown immensely far reaching skills both as an educator and as an education leader.   The course is already a game changer in the way our medical students learn.   Dr Tanna has a strong medical education ethos, pushing the student boundaries, allowing them at their own pace to go beyond the curriculum objectives and instilling confidence in the students in year 3 in the role of a doctor.   She carries a passion for medical students and it is truly rewarding to see how the students have responded to her energy.   She is everything an education leader and doctor should be'
