On 10 April, Academic GPs from the Department of Primary Care & Public Health met with senior staff from the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT), including Mark Davies (Chief Executive), Brendan Farmer (Director of Strategy) and Chris Harrison (Deputy Medical Director). The aim of the meeting was to discuss closer working between the department and ICHT in areas such as primary care service redevelopment, specialist GP training, continuing professional development for established GPs in NW London, GP liaison, and primary care research. With the proposed reconfiguration of health services in NW London, there will be a greater focus on the management of patients with chronic diseases and multi-morbidity in ambulatory and primary care settings. This will require primary care professionals to be suitably supported in their training and their day to day work; and closer working between specialist and primary care services. The links that the Department of Primary Care & Public Health has with local GPs through its teaching and research programmes, and the expertise of the large number of GPs who work in the department, could greatly facilitate these objectives. We agreed to meet again to set specific objectives in areas such as primary care service development and continuing professional development for GPs in NW London.
