Supporting carers DVD highly commended in BMA medical book awards

The RCGP Supporting Carers in General Practice DVD has been highly commended in the 2013 BMA Medical Book Awards in the digital and online resources category. Feedback was that it is a "well-produced resource which demonstrates its research background. It is professionally produced and engagingly presented and I am sure will go a long way in increasing awareness of the work of carers".

This training DVD for GPs and their practice teams enables training on supporting carers to be fitted round work and other commitments by providing an interactive resource that can be used in-house for practice training and for CPD. It gives the rationale behind increasing awareness and support for carers, whilst highlighting areas that can be commonly be improved, or changed to the benefit of both carer and practice. The DVD content is also being transferred onto the RCGP Online Learning Environment so will be available for all to access online from November 2013.

The project was overseen for the RCGP by Elizabeth Muir from Imperial College London and Chantal Simon, Nigel Sparrow and Judith Cameron. Many congratulations to Elizabeth and her colleagues.

Dr Shivani Tanna, Year 3 GP and CMT Course Lead "I am delighted to have been appointed as year 3 GP course lead. My role in the department started on the 1st March 2016 and I have now taken over as CMT course lead. Having taught on this course, I feel privileged to be able to help maintain its excellent reputation and content. I am also developing the new 10 week GP attachment in year 3 which is being piloted for 60 students from September 2016. In this blog he gives us a unique insight into Family Medicine training in Saudia Arabia. The Family Medicine Residency Training Program in Saudi Arabia was established in 1994, at which time the first edition of the curriculum was written. Since then, Family Medicine and medical education have undergone significant changes.
